FAQs - Ballot Entry
What is the ballot?
From Thursday the 1st December 2011 until Tuesday the 31st January 2012, a ballot system will be in place for entry into the Virgin Active London Triathlon, just like many other great sporting events such as the Virgin London Marathon and Wimbledon tennis. During this period, you will still be able to enter the event, but your place will not be guaranteed. The ballot entries will then be allocated at random among the people who have entered during this time. You will be informed if you have been successful or unsuccessful in securing your place by Wednesday 15th February.
How do I enter the ballot?
From Thursday 1st December 2011 until Tuesday the 31st January 2012, if you go to our website and select Enter 2012 you will be able to enter the ballot in the same way you would enter the event normally by completing the entry process and paying for your entry. You will get a confirmation email saying you have entered the ballot but your place is not guaranteed. You will be informed if you have been successful or unsuccessful in securing your place by Wednesday 15th February.
When will I know if I have a place?
We will inform you if you have been successful or unsuccessful in securing a place by Wednesday 15th February via email.
If I'm unsuccessful, are there any other ways I can gain entry?
Yes, there are other options. You can still guarantee entry via one of the following options:

Charity
A number of fantastic charities have guaranteed places for the Virgin Active London Triathlon. It couldn't be easier, get in touch with them and they can arrange for you to be part of their team at the event.

For the list of all official charities you get a place from go to: http://www.thelondontriathlon.co.uk/LTcharity.html

Team Relay
We have guaranteed places in the Team Relays. It couldn't be simpler a team of 3 consists of one swimmer, one cyclist and one runner with each team member handing over their timing chip ('the baton') at the end of each leg. There are two distances you can take part in, Olympic and Sprint.

For Team Relay details go to: http://www.thelondontriathlon.co.uk/LTteamentryinfo.html

Accommodation Package
We have teamed up with the Intercontinental Hotels Group (which includes the Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands) to make booking your place and accommodation at the event easier than ever.

For Accommodation Package details go to: http://www.thelondontriathlon.co.uk/accommodation-package.html
If I'm unsuccessful, when will I get my entry fee back?
We will refund you as soon as we can after the 15th of February 2012. We hope to have processed all refunds by the 1st of March 2012 at the latest.
What if I want to withdraw from the ballot before I find out if I have a place?
Just send us an email saying you want to withdraw from the ballot to info@thelondontriathlon.com with "BALLOT WITHDRAWAL" in the subject line. You will be removed from the ballot and will get a full refund if done before the end of the ballot period.
What if I get a place through the ballot and decide I don't want to race?
You can withdraw. If this is more than 90 days before the event you can defer your place to the following year. If this is less than 90 days before the event you will get a reserved place in next year's event subject to another successful payment. If you want to withdraw less than 8 days before the event, sadly your place is simply lost.
Can I enter more than one race through the ballot?
I'm afraid not. You can only enter once to give everyone a fair chance of getting a place.
How do I request to race in the same wave as a friend?
When you enter the ballot there will be a question that allows you to enter your own code word if you want to start together with a friend in the same start wave. Your friend must enter exactly the same code word and we will endeavour to ensure you start in the same wave if you both get a place in the event.
How many places are there in the ballot?
There will be around 3,000 places available through the ballot.
Why have you decided to operate a ballot system?
The Virgin Active London Triathlon usually sells out well before the end of January. This way it gives everyone a fair chance to enter as entries are available for longer.
What if I want to start fundraising for my own charity before 15th February 2011?
You can still purchase a place through the accommodation package and raise money for charity.

You can also fundraise for your own charity and if you miss out on a place through the ballot you could get a charity entry from an official charity and either fundraise for them instead or try and split what you have raised between two good causes.

If you are worried about not getting a place you could raise interest and not collect donations until you know for sure that you have a place for your own charity.
